La Fleur’s 2015 Lottery Symposium & Retailing Summit will be held May 5-8, 2015 at the Capital Hilton in Washington, D.C.

The Symposium will look at three primary ways to drive fiscal 2015 sales: Prioritize, Optimize & Penetrate (POP). Thanks to the 24/7 connection with players through social media, state lotteries can develop a personal connection. This is a priority. The days of lotteries being a transaction-based sale are over. Lottery players demand more information about the brands they buy. They want a multi-sensory in-store experience, instead of a boring dollar purchase of a lottery ticket.

Lottery marketers are creating this in-store experience through pop up stores at events, vending solutions, digital advertising and promotional events. And for those North American jurisdictions that can sell legally sell their products online, lottery marketers are implementing an omni-channel retail strategy that features brick & mortar, online and mobile experience. These lotteries are far ahead of their competitors because they can integrate their land-based retail operation with their virtual storefront. International research confirms that online and mobile lottery sales complement, as opposed to detract, from traditional retailers.

The time is now to POP and maximize profit for designated good causes, such as K-12 education, college scholarships  and the general fund. Finally, the national lottery leadership has set goals to penetrate new retail trade styles, appeal to the 35 and under consumer, improve playability of games and forge new strategic alliances in fiscal 2015 and beyond.

Symposium Co-Host

The D.C. Lottery & Charitable Games is the co-host of La Fleur’s 2015 Lottery Symposium & Retailing Summit. D.C. Lottery Executive Director Buddy Roogow will deliver the opening presentation on the state of lottery in the nation’s capital. For the first time in 18 months, the D.C. Lottery again has the supply of instant tickets. Brand new tickets went on sale February 4.

During the lengthy “scratch freeze,” the D.C. Lottery worked on alternative options for players. DC Lottery Games Development Specialist John Gorman will discuss the lottery’s strategy of utilizing the instant terminal games (branded as Fast Play games) to help mitigate the loss of scratcher sales. The lottery undertook a series of initiatives at retail to help make the Fast Play product line more visible. The single most effective thing the lottery did was start to sell Fast Play tickets out of Win Stations along with the scratch tickets.
